Explorations Special Fall Colors Trip

November 17, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Explorations Field Trip: SPECIAL FALL COLORS TRIP to Great Falls of the Potomac. Minimum 5 persons. Check out the Great Falls as a potential special event during your Thanksgiving weekend. You will amaze your guests with a most memorable experience that takes you over an island in the Potomac to see several small falls from the bridge that goes to the Great Falls. This walking tour with a geologist provides evidence that the Appalachian Mountains were about as high as the Rockies. Also, this area  cross a section of Earth’s Critical Zone in which all vertebrates (people, too) have lived and are living. For eager minds over age 10.

Dress appropriately. Wear good hiking shoes. We suggest you bring a light jacket, a liter of water, a snack, and a day pack to put your stuff in. You might like to take a hiking stick. Children on this hike should be over 10 years old.

We will meet at the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center. The address is 11710 MacArthur Blvd., Potomac, MD 20854. The phone number is (301) 767-3714.

This is a National Park. There is a $10 parking fee at the park.

You must be a member of the Rockville Science Center to attend this event. This event is free to members. You can sign up for membership online here, or at the event.
