Topic: The Fusion Reactor Quest
Speaker: Professor Bill Dorland, Department of Physics, University of Maryland, College Park.
Nuclear fusion powers our sun. Harnessing and controlling fusion reactions here on Earth has been a goal of a large international research effort for decades. Professor Dorland will describe the challenges that remain and the ultimate possibilities for fusion power.
Bill Dorland is a professor in the physics department at the University of Maryland, College Park, and a visiting professor in the department of nuclear engineering at MIT. He has worked on nuclear fusion ideas for 27 years. In 2009, he was awarded the E. O. Lawrence medal in recognition of his contributions to magnetic confinement fusion research.
