Studio i Makerspace

STUDIOi is a new public makerspace on the second floor of Rockville Memorial Library. A makerspace is a community center with tools and materials, where people in the community can come to learn and teach and make things.

See a list of upcoming events sponsored by RSC at the makerspace. Other makerspace events can be found at the Rockville Memorial Library website (select Rockville library and Makerspace in the boxes on the left).

  • Makerspaces combine technology equipment, community, and education for
the purposes of enabling community members to design, prototype and create
works that wouldn’t be possible to create with the resources available to
    individuals working alone.
  • These spaces can take the form of loosely-organized individuals sharing space
and tools, for-profit companies, non-profit corporations, organizations affiliated
with or hosted within schools, universities or libraries, and more.
  • All are united in the purpose of providing access to equipment, community, and
education, and all are unique in exactly how they are arranged to fit the
purposes of the community they serve.

In 2016 Montgomery County solicited Rockville Science Center (RSC) to coordinate staffing and programs for this new makerspace. RSC is responsible for staffing the space several days during the week in the evening, daylight hours on Saturdays and on Sunday afternoons. Our all-volunteer group represents RSC, contributes to its mission and allows patrons access to the tools and makerspace resources, help collaboration, hold events, and maintain the space – and hopefully have a lot of fun!

If you’re interested in helping organize programs, volunteering to help staff the space, or finding out more about what’s currently going on, drop by the makerspace for our Tuesday evening meetings, from 7 to 8 pm.
