About the event

Ages 14 and up (Adults especially welcome).

Energy, along with work and power, is a word often used, sometimes incorrectly, in the

media. We’ll clear up any confusion with some practical examples and demonstrations. Dr. Jim

Rudert will guide participants through several thought-provoking topics including the following:

  • PEPCO says it produces energy. Scientists say energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Who’s fibbing?
  • What do the following have in common: the Rockville water tower, a mattress, a battery, and the ocean?
  • Do horses ever brag about horsepower?
  • Back To The Future: Can a lightning bolt produce 1.21 gigawatts?
  • Can you personally generate 1/50th of one cent’s worth of electrical energy? Give it a try on the Energy Cycle.
