Girls in STEM

Marvelous Makers (700 × 700 px) (61).png

Did you know that of the 146.4 million people ages 18 to 74 in the workforce, 34.9 million (24%) were employed in STEM occupations in 2021 (Census Bureau Current Population Survey, 2021)? Although men and women represented similar proportions of the total workforce, a greater share of men (29%) than women (18%) worked in STEM occupations. Here at the Rockville Science Center, we are committed to showing girls that STEM isn't just for boys. Our Girls in STEM program is designed to provide a comfortable space and positive role models for girls to explore STEM topics that have traditionally been dominated by males. Whatever your daughter's interests are, we want her to know that there is a place in the workforce for her!

Girls in STEM workshops and events, led by a dedicated team of female STEM professionals, will be scheduled throughout the year. Each program will target a different age group and topic. Many programs will be intentionally designed to align with the requirements for Girl Scout badges for any girls who are interested in working towards badges. Planned topics may include career exploration, engineering, robotics, coding, cybersecurity, home scientists, and more. Stay tuned to our Events page to sign up and get ready for fun, hands-on learning experiences designed to inspire your daughter to continue learning about science and technology.
