Tools & Work Areas

Welcome to the Rockville Makerspace, a place for all ages to come together and build, learn and create. We offer a wide variety of tools and the space for you to work on projects, collaborate with other makers, and learn new skills. This is a community-driven space where your ideas can become reality.

What's in the Makerspace?

We offer a wide variety of tools, including:

  • Basic tools such as screwdrivers, hammers,drills, and wrenches

  • Soldering irons and electrical components such as resistors, capacitors, and motors

Materials: The Makerspace has some art and craft supplies, including colored pencils, markers, drawing paper, glue, and tape, as well as some basic electronics materials including wire, solder, and components. If you need additional materials, please let us know, and we may be able to provide them for your group for an additional cost.

The following equipment requires training from RSC staff before users will be allowed to use it independently. Requirements for training will be clearly posted on the equipment. 

  • 3D printer

  • Bench grinder

  • CNC machines

  • Drill press

  • Laser Cutter/Engraver

  • Scroll saw

  • Sewing machines

Fees: Most equipment is available for use free of charge. There is a materials/usage fee assessed for the 3D printers (10 cents/gram of filament). 

Makerspace Work Areas

The Makerspace can accommodate up to 20 participants 

1.  Classroom Area

Includes a large screen TV, a dry erase board, and 4 tables, suitable for up to 10 people at a time.

2.  Workbench Area

Includes 2 workbenches, 36" tall with 2 foot by 4 foot work surfaces, as well as a variety of basic hand tools, suitable for up to 4 people at a time. There is also a sink and small countertop nearby for projects requiring water or cleanup.

3.  Workshop (Only available to trained and certified individuals)

Training and certification by RSC staff is required for every individual who wants to use the Workshop area, which includes the CNC machine, drill press, bench grinder, and scroll saw.

Got extra tools collecting dust in your garage or basement? The Rockville Makerspace needs your unwanted tools to teach children, teens, and adults in our community important life skills and inspire them to become Makers. All donations must be in good working condition.

Donations can be dropped off at the Rockville Makerspace on Saturdays, 12:00 - 4:00 PM or Tuesdays, 6:00-8:00 PM or you can contact us.
